Granite look alike laminate countertops – Solid granite slabs make a kitchen look more sophisticated. They also have great functional value because they are easy to clean and long. However, solid granite outcrops take up a lot of kitchen remodeling budget. They are also heavy and difficult to handle. Granite look alike laminate countertops provide a cheaper alternative that is also easier to work with.
Measure the thickness of the granite look alike laminate countertops for the edges of your countertop. Granite plates usually average 1/4 inch in thickness, but individual plates may vary in thickness. Set aside granite slabs with even thickness of the edges. Overhang tiles on top of the countertop as a space that is equal to the thickness of the edge plates juts.
Measure the space between the bottom of the overhanging top plate and the bottom of the countertop edge. Using a diamond wet saw cutting edge plates in strips the width. Use a notched trowel to spread thinnest adhesive on a portion of the edge of the countertop. Touch a cut piece of tile to the edge of the countertop, aligning its edges with the tiles on top for more polished results.
Paste the center of a length of masking tape over the piece of tile you just placed on the bench edge and push both ends of the tape on top of the countertop and the underside of the countertop. The band keeps the piece of tile in place because otherwise its weight pulling it down. Repeat until you cover all the edges of countertop. Remove the masking tape when the thinnest is dry.
